Put the second coat of tung oil on the swap bow tonight, it's the bow in the back. My buddy's bow also got the second coat of tung oil tonight, it's in the middle. Put the first coat of tung oil on the first swap bow that blew up a splinter, it's the front bow. I super glued the splinter then wrapped it with sinew. I hate having to do that, but sometimes bamboo bites your ass. It will still be a very shoot able bow, just turns me off. I intend to send it to a friend who is fighting cancer right now. He started his first of 25 radiation treatments and first of 5 chemo treatments two days ago. I am trying to keep his spirits up. Good friends are hard to come by these days.

Roy you da man! I know what your going through my cousin just today finished his 7 weeks of radiation treements...it's long hard days. I spend at least 2-3 hours after work every day I can with him to keep his spirits up. I spent a few hours in the shop tonight and got it real close to floor tiller.

Kelly these are the tools I used to peel a few rings top one is a 6 inch...razor sharp junker I picked up at one of those rusty old junk stores and the other is one I built and use to finish up with..it has a 21/2 inch cutting edge.

Dang posting with my phone isn't fun ... Shoulda used the iPad.

Thats the problem I'm having Walt. Cant seem to get all the dips out of it. I can get close bit not all the way.  Ill just keep messing with it but in the mean time I already asked a friend to make me a set and see what happens

Tell Momma ya want a drum sander son..

D

Ha mamma said she wanted a baby first so maybe after September 7th. Kelly can I go ahead and file for an extension until then lol

LittleBen

Haha you're obviously on the ropes here if you're thinking of having a BABY to get a SANDER David. You will have a beautiful baby who will take all your time and a beautiful sander which will sit dormant for 18yrs.

Also FWIW ... I made a deal with my now fiancee that I could do some work on my car once she "had a ring on her finger" ... well .... many thousand dollars later and I still haven't gotten that car into the shop ... it's all a scam ... Make sure you get it in writing lol

Well I see who wears the pants in you two guys house..  :)

great.... now come the full draw pictures with guys in their boxers.   :scared:    :scared:

David, your sander is the oscillating type right? I have to fight that all the time when using mine.

D

Damnit I'm trying to stay positive here..lolol  I guess I'll save the money and not buy a drum sander since its just going to set there for the next 18 years..thats depressing. lol.

Yeah Josh its the oscillating one.  If it just spun the belt I don't think I would have any problem.  Its the up and down part that I think is screwing me up.  Oh well I'll get it worked out.

Keep talking all that crap Roy..lol

is there a way to disconnect the oscillator?

I did hear of someone disconnecting the oscillation but I never found any info on it. Never took mine apart for fear of ending the warranty. I'm sure I'll lose patience with it someday   :banghead:

David, just found someone that had one stop oscillating. Said the retaining ring (part #26) came off. I'm gonna look into that.

No kidding??? Let me know if you find out something about it.

I got my cores made tonight.  I remembered Ralph on here said last year during the swap that he could get bamboo flooring down to so thin with just a planner so I ran some through on my sled and it worked out really well.  So that part is done.  I have been thinking about trying a different splice idea to something that doesn't require it to be dead center.  Those other styles I made up would require the point to be dead in the center of the limb and I'm not that good yet by a long shot. I just can't come up with a riser idea yet.

Roy ole boy you get any more of them lifted splinters bow that need a home shoot them this way so you don't have to look at them ugly bows.  :)

Thanks Texan I might case some rings down under the worms holes.

Well I got my first option glued up tonight. it is a HBI with a cherry handle and cherry recurve tips. I glued in 1 1/2" of reflex, so with the tips it will start with a little over 2" of reflex and no deflex. Going for a straight limb design. 1 1/4" wide out to about 12" and then tapering to 1/2" nocks. Is going to be 65" ntn and will probably have a bulbous handle with a floppy rest. While I wait for the glue to cure properly I will get started on a couple of hickory bows. Going for a standard design and a pyramid bow. out of the 3 I will get one that will make a good swap bow.

I have an oscillating drum sander and there is an arm that rides on a collar of the shaft that causes the drum to oscillate up and down. It could be easily removed.
