Fujimo, I trap most of my glass longbows.  I can easily take off 5 or so pounds when I trap the back.  I start at the fade with a subtle trap and increase to around an eighth of an inch for most of the limb.  I ease up the last few inches to the tip.

I've seen a thread for a jig to put on a sander table that looked pretty interesting.  I do it the hard way with rasp and sandpaper.

Bob, those veneers look outstanding.  Love the idea of Aussie wood.  Don't see too much of that around Arkansas!

had to be hairy oak as I don't have time to shave it!         Did mention it once before but the name 'hairy oak actually refers to the bark on the tree being fibrous or 'hairy' It's actually not a true oak at all but a member of the allocasurina family.

Man!  We're only a little over a week into this swap, and some of you are near completion, and others have a really good start. Talk about making a person feel like a slacker. Lol. I don't even have all my materials yet for my swap bow. I have however, made some pretty good progress on my current build, and hopefully, I'll get some pics up of it soon. Aside from the finish, I've got just a little work to do on the limbs, and grip, and some fine sanding, and hopefully I'll get a few arrows through it soon. Got k-zoo this weekend, and an extended ice fishing trip next weekend, so hopefully two weeks from now I can put some serious thought and work into the swapper.

Great job so far everyone! I like everything I've seen.

I will work on trapping the back I have already rounded the belly a bit and a little bit of a trap on the belly side. Then I read up on trapping and discovered that many believe trapping the back is better than the belly.

I wonder if I have aleady taken some off the belly will it be safe to trap the back now?

I will also try to post a pic of the Draw Force Curve that I ran on this bow as it is right now.

Cameron the trapping to the back won't be a problem. One thing you can do before that is square up the edges again and then round them over really well- if you still need to drop some more weight then trap to the back. Hope you can post the fd curve- those are interesting to see

I got started on a stave yesterday. The bark was off but  removed the cambium and sapwood and got it down to a good back ring. There are 6 pin clusters along the bow but they shouldn't be a problem.
The stave is osage, 61"t/t and I have reduced the width to 1 1/2" for its full length for now. I think I will do a bendy handle bow with slightly flipped tips.

got both of my staves roughed out on the bandsaw (brand new timberwolf blade made a hell of a difference).  still needs a good bit of rasp work to get bending.



reading 13% at the handles so ill let them sit a couple weeks while i finish up my own bow.  these will be identical design to that one so my tillering eye will be nice and warmed up when i get to em.
