So far I'm diggin it. Easy to work with and it's my lightest bow yet. Got the riser halfway formed, should get a few shots in this weekend

Can't wait to hear how it performs!!!

Well... After way too many set backs, I finally got this thing built!  It didn't quite turn out the way I had originally planned, but it turned into the bow that it wanted to be. I still have some final sanding and have to spray the finish on, but that might have to wait till next weekend, so here are a few pics.

Lacewood, Purple Heart, Osage, white glass accents. 52#@DL, 62". Sorry bout the bad lighting. I'll get some in the sun before I ship. I came in three pounds under weight, and the grip ended up much slimmer than I wanted, but it shoots straight, and is pretty cozy to my hand. For my second bow, and all the problems along the way, I guess I should be happy that it shoots, but it still irks me to no end, that it's under weight, and the grip dictates a certain hold.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

Awesome Paul, colours and lines are really one of a kind!

KellyG

Well that is a nice one. I bet ****** will learn how to hold it if nothing more then to show it off.

KellyG

Ok here is where I am at I have it tillered on a short string to about 58#@21". It still needs some heat. I will show some pics now and please let me know what you think.

At Rest

Short string

At 21"

The left looks like it is bending more on the inner 3rd working on that. The right is looks stronger. I think I need to get the left at a more even or should I work on getting more bend in the right?

Ok here is how the string tracks. Just a bit off.

I guess I could put one heck of an arrow rest on it so it is a center shot.

Kelly thats a cool lookin stick.  Youre definitely right about the left limb though. If it were me i would probably give it a dozen or so rasp strokes on the outer 2/3 and then a little more than that on the whole right limb... Then brace it and exercise it and see how sbe sits.  Good thing you got plenty of room to maneuver to still make 45-50 @ 29  ;)

Pat B

Coming along nicely Kelly. I can't see the 21" pic though.
I started adding Tru-Oil to my trade bow. It should be ready to go by the end of this week or the first f next.
She shoots well(at my 26" draw) but with a little thump when shot.

You self bow guys impress me every time. That looks like a fun one to work. Looks good so far.
Thanks for the kind words gents. Hopefully I'll have her finished up soon. I do need to get a new string for it though. Anyone know of a string builder with a quick turn around?

Here you go Kelly

At Rest

At 21"

I'm no stave guy but that 21" pic made my stomach flip.

Not trying to be rude at all, I just have had bows break at less bend than that...osage is amazing stuff though.

I'd say on the right get the whole thing working more without drawing it back as far until your limbs are more even.

On the left try to get the outer 1/2-1/3 bending...stay away from the inner 1/2.

you're gonna have to lose a few pounds to bring that right limb down to match the left.

Again..I'm not much of a bowyer..but that's what I see..

Good luck! Hope it turns out GREAT!

LittleBen

Agreed, no more scraping on the left limb until the right limb bends as much. Then work on the outer left limb, no work on the inner left limb.

KellyG

Thanks razor back a couple of the brackets were missing. thanks for the input I will work on that right one a bit. I have plenty of room to narrow the outer limbs also.
