Yes TBIII adds moisture to the wood when you use it. Which makes sense since it's water based.

I also know this is the case because as I said, I can start with wood that is completely stabilized to my apartment's climate, and after using TBIII to glue it up, I can weight it every day on a scale and see the bow losing mass very slowly. All evidence suggests that this is a result of moisture leaving the wood. Since everything was stabilized prior to gluing, this can only have come from the glue.

I view this as one of the primary drawbacks of using a water based adhesive.

Remember, DRY wood expertly tillered .... well if you tiller a bow right after TBIII dries, your wood has alot higher moisture content than you might think, and it WILL take more set than necessary.

I try to let mine dry for a few weeks after glue up. This doesn;t bother me too much because ususally I'll glue up a few at a time so while the first is drying, I'm gluing more bows, and by the time I'm done the first one is ready or close to ready.

Love the stain job on that one. What did you use?

Boobacker

Used a walnut stain then sanded down between the nodes to get that look ! then I put about 4 coats of tung oil on her !

Here are better pictures of Boobackers bow.

did you take the rind off hte boo first or stain right onto the rind?

I can never seem to get the boo to take much color from teh stain. What brand/type of stain was it?

Roy from Pa

He made the bow in my shop.
Yes rind was removed.
An aniline dye with alcohol base.

Fine looking bow Boobacker.

I'm getting close on my first trilam attempt. It still needs some shaping on the grip, tip overlays, a bunch of sanding and I need to shoot her in. It's a hickory back, Ipe core and osage belly. I've not used hickory backing either but she seems to be quick so far.

I'll post some pics when I get her finished.

Brad, that looks very nice...

after doing what ended up being the most difficult glue up you've attempted...
..and waiting 36 hours thinking about them...
..there's nothing quite like the feeling of seeing good 'nuff glue lines...

Doesn't look to shabby, John... Are you going to glue a piece of wood to the belly section of the riser section? Just looks to me like your building them backwards..

Zradix

Thanks Roy.

I'm hoping to get the belly side of the riser glued on tonight.

Thanks Justin.

Roy..lol..you added more after I posted.

Yeah, I just got done gluing a belly piece to the riser.

It's another lam stack like the one between the back and core above.

The piece in the middle is 12".
The piece I glued on the belly is 8"
