what makes a quiet bow.I have been building r/d longbows and they seem loud to me .other than tuning, string type and arrow weight.what in the bows design make it quite.

check how much of the string is in contact with the limb of the bow at brace, if there is any contact the bow will be noisy , r\\d bows are very efficient at the the transfer of energy and should be quiet if not, could be limb mass or design , I have found a skinny string D-97 ,8 stran for 50#, will help in the transfer of energy of a noisy bow, a bow that transfers the energy most efficiently will be quiet.  The stored energy that is not used by the arrow is returned to the limbs,  creating the noise.  Curt

Limb mass, particularly at the tips.  Limb timing imbalance also screws things up.
Take a kid hunting!
