Seriously, those are beautiful!! Can't wait to see the finished bow!

I'm one of them backwards redneck wood bow guys, Kenny. Hain't got my Masters Degree in numbers yet! Kin ya break these tapers down into 1/64th, 1/32nd, 1/16th, 1/8th stuff? All them fancy .005, .035, .0005 just messes wif my head..

And where did ja get that blue wood from? I thought you was into pink? LOL

bornofmud

Also Kenny, anyway to order from your 'special' stock?  Don't know how many pieces you've got like that hiding in the shop, but sure would be happy to get my hands on some after the holidays!  Would of course pay more  ;)

kennym

Nick, I don't keep special stock for my own use for sure. Just about anything I put  in one  for me has a defect I won't ship out. I just find a way to work around it or burn it. I may have the other end of that board out back, I'll look. But the price will be regular price.

Roy. Here ya go  .001 is1/1000 ,  .005 is 5/1000 , etc dat help ya?
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Kenny, that's pretty funny right there! Lol.

Tapered glass!?? I'll be following this one for sure.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

Seriously Roy, most lams are 36" so a .002 per inch taper is .072" overall, and 1/16" is about .063, so that's pretty close to a .002 taper.

More confusing? LOL
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Kenny are you building this bow the same weight as the five test bows you built a while back and with the same core thickness as the maple bow from that test so you can see the difference in the tip weight?  Just curios on this one understand the logic but you cant be using stuff  5/1000   thats just way too confusing.

Im tuned in on this

Tapered glass! You might be on to something! This bow is going to be beautiful! Love that walnut!

beachbowhunter

Pretty sneaky!  I don't know about how glass is made but wonder if the fibers are continuous through the piece. If you taper, it would maybe cause "grain runout"?  Wear a helmet   :goldtooth:
Ishi was a Californian

fujimo

probably not too different than tapering a boo backing on a wood bow, and i guess the taper will be near the tips where it might not be as important

bamboo

Kenny
do you run the same core taper with the tapered glass? side profile about the same?
got my eye on this one!!
Mike

Cool thing- everyone I talked about tapering glass to reduce weight and keep glass/wood ratio said I was crazy.... looking forward at your results for sure!

bornofmud

Hahah, I see. Guess I just have an eye for the defective stuff! Figures    :knothead:

chackworth3

Really looking forward to this one Kenny.

kennym

Norb , I hope the glass still works, I'm sure all the glass strands don't run full length  and the taper is only .016 of .050. If it blows you can say I told ya so!! Lol

Mike, I'm running same taper and profile to kind of see what happens. I am planning to take it to 1.25 wide later. I may need help stringing it before I narrow it tho!!!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Now , I hadn't thought about keeping the ratio the same, may be an added benefit!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

To be honest, Kenny. The glass is so thin anyway in thickness, I can't see the reasoning to taper the glass when width tapering will do the same thing. But hey, I'm no glass expert either...

kennym

You could be right Roy..... Nah you'll never be right  :D
Stay sharp, Kenny.
