Hey gang,

Thinking of picking up an inexpensive moisture checker soon.
I figure on most lams I'll be able to check it in a section that will be cut off...no biggie.

How do you check the moisture in a thin tapered lam?
I'm afraid poking the pins in anywhere the 5-6mm they suggest would ruin the lam.

Not to mention, I'd think the thinned parts would be different in moisture content than the thicker section.

Are there other types of meters that don't need to have pins pressed deep into the wood?

Thanks

You don't need to stick the pins down into the wood, just hold them tight against it.

ah ha!

Thanks Roy.

fujimo

can you put the pins either side of the wood?- tight up against the wood- i geuss as long as the current between the pins is homogeneous.

I understand:)

Its almost insignificant at that thickness. One day in 35% humidity will dry it right down. On the opposite side, one day in 70% humidity will make a noodle.
