My big Griz sander has had a rough sounding bearing for awhile, it just got worse.

Got an email in to Grizzly to check availability, and bought a couple at the farm store that wouldn't work today.

Going to a local machine shop tomorrow that stocks lots of bearings(where I buy my blade roller bearings for my bandsaw)

Stuff happens sometimes! :p

That is to bad, hopefully the machine shop will get you back up and running. One would think the bearings would be available from other sources besides Grizzly. It this you thickness lam sander if so I bet a bunch of guys are pulling for a speedy repair.

All bearing should have a number on them. I just replaced two on my band saw and all I did was take one to an auto parts and he did a cross reference on the number and got me two new ones. Wish ya luck, Kenny.

My Griz sander has had a bearing screaming for a couple of years, I have to wear ear muffs when I start it up, really loud but quietens down after the sander warms up.

I have changed this bearing out once before, a major job so I let it scream.

When I bought a new bearing the last time from Grizzly I bought some extras just in case. One day I will get motivated to replace the loud bearing, if I ever have any down time between projects.

Eric, this one is MUCH easier than the other sander I had. About 5 bolts and 4 set screws, 30 minutes tops.

How you likin your new one Roy?

Kenny, just replaced the idler spindle bearings in mine. Got them from our local bearings and drives. They had them in stock and made a big difference. Funny, I had been a mechanic for several years and would have never considered replacing bearings as smooth as the ones that were bad on this machine. The guy at the bearing store agreed, but it worked.

cost me $28 for the pair. My belt tension cylinder is going out now (wont release) and am looking at $300 to replace it...going to use a 2x4 as a pry bar for changing belts for a while before jumping on that. I'm sure it can be rebuilt, but the down time would be more expensive than the new cylinder.

Got the bearings today, had em in in about 30 minutes. Really pretty easy and now smoooooth again.

Jim, mine didn't feel rough either, but must not take much to make it vibrate.

How often do you grease your machine? I may be going too light not wanting any on lams.

Probably a non-issue with the dust it creates,pretty well stays on the bearing.

Don't know why they didn't go with sealed bearings like they did on the less expensive sander I had before....
