Started a couple osage selfbows back in the summer.  I'm almost finished with one of them.  Here are a few pics of the build.

Had a pretty nice piece of wood to start with.

Got the bark and sap wood off and took about a 1 1/2" thick cut off.  Split into two pieces.  Both were about 1 1/2 x 1 1/2.

I'm not real good about taking a lot of pics along the way.  So several things happened along the way that can't post.

Had to do some straightening even though had a real nice piece of wood.

After I got some of the kinks straightened out, I put a little set in it.  Which took out a few more bends I didn't like.

Got the preform to floor tiller and low brace and still had some straightening to do.

Good job, David.  Looks great!

Here it is after a couple tillering sessions.  Braced at about 6".  Not a very good pic.  It is laying in the floor.  I don't like the background on my tillering tree.

It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

She's looking nice. How about a full draw pic.

Pat, just finished her up today.  My part time photographer (wife) has had stomach bug last couple days.  She's better tonight so maybe we'll get some tomorrow.

Thought I had it last week but after shooting it several dozen times the tiller was off some.  So had a little more work to do.

David,

Did any of that Osage come to you by way of George Spence?

Looks good at brace!  Looking forward to full draw.

Very bad roads here this morning due to Cleon and Deon.  No church services, so, here are the rest of the pics I have on the build.

Bow is 60" NTN.  Osage with copperhead skin back.  47# @ 28".

Papa, no George didn't help with this osage.  I think I got it from my friend Brian Oden.  A fellow Tradganger.  Brian had back surgery last week.  I doubt he cuts any osage any time soon.  Get well soon Brian!  Need some more sage!!!   :bigsmyl:

A friend gave me a very large copperhead this fall.  It was 41" long.  It was wide enough to split and cover both limbs with skin to spare.

Here are the finished pics.  Thanks for all the comments.  I loved making this bow.  I have here sister at low brace and hope to get her done by Christmas.

Really nice. Always a sucker for copperhead skins.
