hello gentlemen ,
Im making my first bow and i was wondering which i should use for tips and tip/riser overlays , kwick it adhesive or the epoxy ? thank you any help is appreciated .

Randy Morin

Epoxy is a much safer bet.

I am assuming Kwick-it is some sort of super glue?

Epoxy sands much better when blending to the limb glass.

Both work- like Kenny said the epoxy blends into the glass better.

And epoxy will also fill small gaps between the overlays.

One of two things will happen; it'll either work or it won't.

Kwick it works well and a lot faster but like the guys said above epoxy is much easier to sand and fills in better

I use CA on my own huntin  bows, you gotta make sure the overlay fits good, and pull some hair out blending it to limb...  :D

That is why I keep my hair 1/8" long so I can't get a good grip on it.  :bigsmyl:

I use Satellite City Special T thick CA glue and it blends ok, although not as good a smooth on. It is strong enough for the job though, last fall I just finished a 60 lb bow and was shooting it and had a nock break and I basically dry fired the bow, ouch. The bow flew out of my hand and the tip overlays flew off and hit the wall, after further inspection the glue line was good, the store energy had to go somewhere and the actionwood actually tore but the glue didn't fail. I've used the glue ever since on tips and riser overlays.

I think smooth on is the best there is but I'm not that patient  so I'll keep using the special t.

Kwick It is the cyano I use for repairs and such, but when it comes to overlays, I only use Smooth On.

awesome , epoxy it is . thank you guys .

I actually use the Gorilla glue 5 minute quick-set epoxy.  Works great, and you don't have to wait forever like smooth-on.

And I also keep my hair 1/8" for the same reason.        :D
