Sandpaper will eat it right off fast.

I have used 'Citrisstrip' on gun stocks with tru oil and it worked well, but I dont have experience with it on bows.

Have acetone on the shelf and will try that first.  Otherwise on to the sandpaper and steel wool.  Thanks for the help!

Insect repellent, I have always thought about trying it. Anytime I have gotten it on a finished bow it ruined the finish.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Walt, advice and a fair warning all in one!  Nice coup.

I scrape off most of the old finish with a thin forged blade butcher knife - holding it at about a 90 degree angle then clean it up mostly in the curved areas with 220 grit sandpaper...I find that it is faster - takes less of the wood off and makes an easier job of the whole refinish process...

Insect repellent is murder on a bow's finish but there is one type of finish that's impervious to chemicals.I have seen it on one bow and the bowyer willnot release his mixture.
