Guys and gals, Can I please get your input on what you believe to be the best books on the market for making a laminated longbow? I'm sure there are different opinions amongst you, but I hear that some of these books are hardly worth the investment for the most part, and I need to watch my $$$. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

k-hat

Are you committed to laminated?  I could recommend some for selfbows, but sorry no help on laminated.

I never bothered to read a book for laminated bowmaking... just did it. I did watch the Binghams video and had their instruction pamphlet, which gives ya the basics.

I have Jack Harrisons book, just haven't read it yet  :)

carpin'mark

Binghams' video is certainly worth a thousand words. They do a good job of walking you through the process.

K-Hat, I am rather committed to the laminated bow. Can't exactly put my finger on it, but that's what I'm attracted to.
Bowjunkie and Carpin'mark, thanks for the advice on Binghams. It does seem proper that those people would put out solid info on this process.

Brock

laminated as in glass...or laminated as in other natural material.  I like the Dean Torges book/video for bamboo backing.

Gary Davis has a decent video as well...

For books there are a few..>TBB, Bowyers Craft, etc...

for glass backed bows...all I have ever seen or read was in a Bingham Kit.

The best book is....here!! You found it.. read the build-a-longs. I bought the Binghams DVD's, form kit, hose, thermostat for oven and prints. The DVD is a little brief but to the point. I found that building forms the binghams  way did not work for me..I use the router method like kennym shows on his web site.

These FREE build along comes as a pdf file, and you won't find a better guide/book for the money:

Robert, it would be hard to disagree that this site is the best source of info. I've been looking thru as much as possible, and the differing opinions and R & D from so many quality craftsmen is outstanding. Then, to be able to ask them questions and have them respond is priceless.

Brock, I am interested in glass backed bows as of this moment. I am surely going to take a look at Binghams.

Robert, can you tell me how to get to kennym's site for more info on this form? That sounds like something i need to see.

A huge thank you to all of you for your time and help.

Harrison's book has more tech information than anywhere I have found. a lot of good information, seemed to be arrived at by much research.
Ps 8:3 ¶ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

DGK

Hill Hunter, which Harrison book in particular? Does he have more than one?

If you decide to change your mind and give selfbows a try I recommend hands down the "Traditional Bowyer's Bible vol 1".

Thanks you guys for pointing me toward the right book. I'm certain there must be some valuable information in the Harrison book. I'm going to save my pennies and get my hands on a copy asap.

Swissbow, is there a copy of that ebook in English?

Swissbow

Hi DGK, I also have an English version ( just follow the link above... ). Fortunately, a friend helped me with the translation.
