Adding an Arrowhead to riser...

I am building a bow for a friend and he would like to have an arrowhead that he has encorporated into the riser of his bow.  I have not done this before and would love to have any insight that is available.  My plan was to use a dremel tool to carve out the area and depth. One of my concerns is not know how deep I can inlay into the riser. I don't want to weaken the riser.

BTW - the bow is Birdseye Maple Lams and core wood from Troy Breeding...62" 55# @28" and smooth draw and great shooter. I still have a good deal of finish work to do but I am very happy with the way it turned out and my buddy will be thrilled if I don't mess up this last part of setting the arrowhead.

I knew those two tone birdseye veneers were going to look great. Heck the whole bow looks great.

Yep - the pics don't really even show the full beauty of the wood and the bow is still in a a fairly roughed out stage but it is really starting to pop.

The Birdseye maple has a quilted look as well that is really awesome. The hard thing about bow building is that I get attached to the bow and have a real hard time turning it over to it's new owner.

This is one that I would like to add to my personal collection. I may just have to pick up some more Birdseye maple from you Troy. BTW Troy - the stacks you have provided are hitting the mark right on. This one came in at 55#@28 just as planned.

I have done a couple, I did as you say, I outlined with a pencil, then dremeled it out, I took mine deep enough for the edge to be below flush and have had no problems, I used 2 part epoxy, mask the bow off around the cut out and filled it about half full of glue so it filled any voids.

Id be careful cutting too deep in the off side of the shelf. I dont know how deep your bow is cut (center/past center) but where that head is placed is the weakest part of the bow. I learned this one the hard way and have scars to prove it. I love the bow BTW. Very clean lines.

Thanks Dan for the info...do you think it would be safer putting the arrow head down on the bottom section of the riser?

Dan is on to something. Think I'd also suggest moving the head to the lower part of the riser.

I'd locate it below the shelf between where the bottom belly  lams end and the back lams. Assuming it wouldn't interfere with the shooters bow hand. Ill get you some form pics up soon.

I agree, both mine were up, opposite of where the window was not cut deep.
