You glass girls have a lot of my respect. Just not something I want to try.

Hey Justin - We need an update.  How's it coming along?  Or did you just give up on it after killing that bird with your BBO?

Hey guys... I took a break over the weekend because turkey season had started and so I was trying to get my girlfriend a bird but no such luck. They didn't want to work at all but we got close and she had fun. I'm gonna check the weight today and I will give ya an update of what is the next step. I did glue up some lashed and coco for tip overlays. Will get back to to ya a little later today.

So I put my bow on the tree... 70# @ 28 right now... Gonna thin the limbs some more. Hoping to get closer to 60 at least

MoeM

Get some pics for us- im ill and maybe some motivation to get my ass down the shop would speed up cure...

I think you'll be able to get it close to 60.

I'd be happy with 60#... That would make a great deer weight hunting bow. I just need to get back at it... My life has revolved around turkey hunting and work.  I think I may narrow the tips some too... they kind of look chunky right now at 1/2 inches wide.

Tomorrow is my day off so I hope to finish the limbs and have the tip overlays glued on.

bowhntineverythingnh03743

So today I got the tip overlays glued on....Coco over osage. I thinned the limbs down to 1 1/8 inch to 1/2 tips. Rounded over the corners and sanded them down a bit with 80 grit paper. I put it on the scale and we are at 60# right now...WHOOT WHOOT!!! I figure once all sanding is done I will finish out around 56-58# which is perfect!

I hope to get my tips all shaped up tomorrow and maybe cut out the  shelf. Its coming along but its a slow process for being my first. I will put up some pictures tomorrow.

jsweka

Sounds great, Justin!!  I knew you'd be able to get it down to about 60#.  If it weren't for that boo boo you made on the tip and needing to cut the length it would have been easier.

Looking forward to the pics!

Ya wish it was perfect but as long as I am able to get a shooter I will be happy.

bowhntineverythingnh03743

So between pouring rain showers I got my tips roughed shaped and the sight window roughed out as well. The weight right now is 59.80# at 28. The bend in the brace position looks good. Couldn't get any more pictures right now because it started to rain again.

Anyways here are a few pics of where we are at now...

I have a little more shaping to do to the sting grooves and the sight window where the shelf is but I am happy where I am at. Next its time to take the block riser to a round shaped handle. I will need some advice to shape this thing to get the pressure directly in the middle of the riser and to have it evenly rounded on both sides.

I know John you use a measuring type system to shape the handle. Do ya mind giving me some insight on how this is accomplished.

Thanks guys for all your help!!!

MoeM

Nice Justin! Are you going to hide the riser in leather?
John described the way to round the handle with facette technique- break the edges slightly as long as edges stay^^

MoeM I haven't decided if I am going to wrap it in leather. Guess it all  depends on the feel of my handle once it is shaped. I would hate to cover the wood because of the looks but we shall see.

Hey dudes; do you trap your hillstyles` bellys and how deep are your shelves/windows cut towards center?
