I am about to make a bow out of Cocobolo for the first time and was wanting to know when I am ready to put on a finish what I should use? I am looking at using Minwax wipe-on poly. Will that work or do I need to use a sealer and if so what do I need to use to seal the wood? Thanks!!!

Heres what I use.  Works great and the best part is its dry in 5 min

Yes you have to seal the bow first and then you can use a rattle can finish like helmsman spar

I've used Minwax wipe-on poly on cocobolo, but I did first seal it with superglue.

Spread superglue all over with your finger (wearing a latex glove), let it dry, and then sand it smooth again before the wipe-on poly.

I've never tried it without the superglue because I've read on here somwhere before that the oils in cocobolo will keep the poly from drying.

I used "Zinsser Bulls Eye shellac" in a spray can to seal a Rosewood bow.. Then I went over it with Min Wax Helmsman spar Urethane. that was over a year ago and so far no problems. The Bulls Eye dried very quickly.

Looks like I'm a slooooow typer, I use the stuff that Dmaxshawn posted a link to. I used super glue a couple of times..it really gases off so you better have some good ventilation and for me it's kinda hard to sand. I still use the GG brand of super glue for my bow tips

Thanks for the information everyone. I can't wait to get going on this bow.
