I like your caul, Sporthunter.  and your bow looks great. I never know how much to heat a bow's belly. I don't get it hot enough. Too afraid I'll over do it.

Thanks Dave! Yeah I have been ridiculously busy trying to get everything in order for the end of the fiscal year at work.

For everyone who wasn't there, this photo was taken immediately after Dave yelled "suck in your gut!" .... needless to say it didn't work.

Thanks again for the post.

SportHunter

Thanks Red.

Backed the bow with rawhide today, time to let it sit for awhile.

Well got mine tillered and shot about 100 through her. Feels real nice with no hand shock and the tiller looked good, if not great. Put a coat of stain and oil on it and noticed a small issue about 10" from the bottom tip. 2 small compression fractures formed on one edge angling away from each other by about 45 degrees. So I am going to grind the area down and put some tip underlays on both ends, reassess the tiller and see where it ends up. There is no hinge in the area and I am going to measure to see if one side is thicker than the other in that spot, which may have caused the stress. Was hoping to send it out this weekend but will have to wait a little while longer. Bow needs to be the best it can be.

Soy I have not forgotten ya, I am still tracking who has not gotten one.

Well I got a Dean Torges patch on my bow, today. I believe the problem is the area just before the non-bending part of the limb was being stressed too much. I plan to thin this area and trap the back on both limbs to relieve this stress. Area looked good other than this so hopefully this will fix the problem. I have another bow that I had in the works as a possible backup if this doesn't work.

I just got word that another bow was received. The bowyer ended up forwarding his bow along. That is always bittersweet. To hear on my end. I am glad they come through but hate to see them give up a bow.

I also would like to run something by the ones still waiting on their bows and that is do you want to know who is building your bows? this might put some of your minds at ease.

Also It seems that for right now I only have one who has not shipped and seems to drop off the Earth. I am going to have to ask someone to help out make a extra bow.

kevin_h

I would like to help out..always need one more item on my plate...what kind of bow did the gentleman ask for?

I received my bow yesterday. It came from Kansas by way of Wisconsin. Due to a few drop-outs and other misfortunate events I've received an osage selfbow from Jake Fr.

Thank you, Brother! I haven't been successful in my attempts at making a genuine osage selfbow for myself. This one is just right. Although it was meant for an archer with a longer drawlength, it shoots well for me and my measly 26" draw.

Jake, did you harvest the osage yourself? I have several staves from trees I've harvested but the few selfbows I've attempted left something to be desired. Also, what are the string silencers made of? They look like wool but I'm not sure.

Once again, thank you for the fine bow.    :banghead:

I could help out Kelly! Always nice to make a bow for someone and gives me an excuse to get back in the shop during hunting season

KellyG

Wood I will let it be a bit of a suprise a bit longer. I have a new tracking number so you may know  soon anyway.

Kevin and Justin thanks to both of you. I think will let the bowyer who was stiffed choose if that is ok with you both of you.

But he was not picky on type of bow and is pretty standard on draw 45-50 at 28 RH.

If he does not get back with me by the end of the weekend  I flip a coin.

KellyG

Oh I been told of 2 bows shipped.
