help with old bow

I have an old black hawk bow that is suppose to be 40#s but when put on the scale it only 22#s. The handle of this bow fits my hand so good thats the only reason I want to try and fix it. My ? is can I sand off the back of the bow and glue on another peice of wood to help with adding weight. I want to use this bow for form work and shooting 3d tourneys. If this can be done I have some more ?s about glueing and pressing it together. Thanks Mike

It's a glass bow right? Or not? Either way you could glue on a wood or glass lam and increase the weight.

Roy this is an old yellow bow that I think has some glass on the back but not much. I like the darker woods what kind of wood do I need to look for and what type of glue do I use. I will try and get a good pic up of this bow tomorrow so yall can see it and tell me what to do to it.

Mike it prolly is a glass bow with wood lams between the glass. I am no expert on glass bows, but I would bet gluing a glass lam on the back would work. You could use clear or black glass. Smooth On Epoxy would be the glue to use. I imagine you could glue on a wood lam to the back also. There is an old guy on here that sells what you need. Kenny McKenzie is his name. Kenny is a good reference.
I'd suggest a 1/8 inch slat do hickory.
Tite bond 3 would workI think but I'm partial to,the Urac type glue for gap gap filling.

I have glueded a strip of glass over existing glass a couple of times when weight came in way to low.  Both are still shooting fine after several years.  These were glass bows and I already had the form, therefore not to difficult.  Just roughfed up the glass and glued at a lower temp than the first time.

OK boys here is this old bow that I love so much. Its pretty ugly and beat up but it fits my hand so good. So is it a recurve or long bow and I have found out it has glass on the back so can I sand it off a little then glue something on it to bring up the weight.  Thanks Mike

Black Hawk was made by Cravatta Brothers, not far from where I live. Glass for sure and a glass lam will do what you want done. Contact Kenny M and he will fix you up.

I reworked a bow with yellow glass, after a little scrubbing it turned out the glass was white. The bow had lived in a smokers house for about 50 years.

You may find the same thing.

Well I have talked to Mr Kenny and he desided that I shouldn't put wood on the back of the bow but put glass now we are trying to figer out how I am gonna press and hold the glass on the bow while it dryes.
