Red oak, 3/4" in. thick, edge grain, coat in canola oil then heat and slowly apply clamps. Take your time clamping down and keep heating the whole time. It's much easier then it sounds    ;)      
No cracks, about 1/4" of springback. I put my main clamp 4" from the tip.
