Couldn't decide what kind of wood to use. Then I noticed I had a cherry and maple riser allready glued up and I found some flat sawn cherry for veneers.Hope ***** likes cherry.Should make a nice light bow.

a lot of nice work already, and a lot of nice warm cozy looking shops. Have my house  finished but my shop is still waiting on demo of old house  that was on property when we bought it, so this bow build will be outside yuk.
After some thought and some inspiration from all the fruity drink talk I think it will be mulberry. Here is today's progress of a little quick hatchet work....now I have to go back to work before someone realizes I am gone LOL

DVS...that is awesome.  I will be expecting it soon then. But in all seriousnessness, I love those pics of kids shooting. And that one is as cute as it gets. I once built a kids bow like that and just for "fun" I shot a kids arrow with a blunt tip made from those electrical connectors right into my wife's left butt cheek....I tell you boys that bit of whimsy almost cost me my life.  The round bruise it left was a constant reminder of just how close I had come to talking personally to Jesus.

Kate, the stuff grows everywhere here. If you can make it jere for mojam i can send you home with more than you could use.
Any body that drinks fruity beer and smokes fruity cigars prolly can't make a bow out of that yeller wood that would be heavy enough to hunt with.

Oh wait a minute I forgot we had to find somebody new to pick on    :dunno:

I've decided to use this stave for my trade bow. It is half of a 2" diameter osage pole, 64"t/t, the back of the bow is what was under the bark. It has a slight dogleg at one end but I will leave it be unless I have alignment problems. There is also a pronounced knot on the edge near that dog leg so I don't want to stress it there any more than needed.  I did even up the reflex, one limb at a time with dry heat and oil.
Here is what it looked like with just the tips roughly narrowed and the bark removed. Still a thin layer of cambium on the back. It was well sealed with shelac when I removed the bark. This pole was a gift from Mike McGuire and was cut last March or April.

This is one limb after heating and clamping to the caul...

No other wood looks as good with pin knots as osage does. Further along than i, guess ill have to get some flowers for daisy, i mean my wife so i can get some shop time in the next few nights. Especially when she see i ordered a couple of cans of shellac

Some more pics , after bracing and shooting a couple dozen arrows through.  I am going to have to straighten out one limb, the string lines up with the outside of the handle a bit much.  Shoots nice though, like centershot.
Is a bit light, but it is still 70" ntn, some room for piking.  Am waiting on my scale to arrive before I know the exact draw weight, not that I'd give it away here.  ;)
The bottom limb in these pics is going to keep its dogleg as there is a knot right in the center of the limb that needs no extra stress.  I can get the string tracking centerline by straightening the other limb.

Left limb is top limb:

Wow you all are off and running. Some great looking projects underway. I'm still reorganizing the shop. Got the back store room painted and ready to start filling the shelves. Then I can dial in on what is going to get worked on for *********
