This is a product ive never really heard of. heres the link www.calibamboo.com/bamboo-lumber-lumboo.html.

It is bamboo dimensional lumber, it is really inexpensive, and seems to be made like the flooring, so, it may be usable for bow building?

Any ideas?

It looks interesting. I assume the grain will be vertical. Can't tell so much from the picture. Looks like it would be great for core laminations.

If ripped down to 5/16 squares and run through my Veritas dowel maker....hmmm may make for good arrow shafting. May have to give that a shot.

Yup, take it all back. Not good for bow making. The flooring would be though.

Will, I see the flooring offered in Home Depot and was wondering the same thing.

RomeoWhiskey, Will the Veritas hold up to the bamboo? Am thinking of getting a doweler for some arrow shaft experimenting. Was wondering how it would hold up to the harder woods.

The bamboo flooring arrows have been done before. I received sample pack of them. If I remember, it was rather finicky to work with and took quite a while to match up spine groups, thus not making it very cost effective for the arrow maker.

I'm wondering who has use Calibamboo for backing slats and how was the quality?

In the gallery section under "slats" there is a photo of a backed longbow and a real interesting way to carry a quiver.

Monterey, I can't say I've used the dowel tool with anything very hard. Works great with POC and poplar. I'm pretty sure it would work with laminated bamboo just fine.

It's a well made solid/heavy weight tool, I think it would be OK for harder woods. I'll have to run some Ipe through it and see how it goes. If it will work with Ipe, I speculate it would work with just about anything shy of concrete.

I'll post my results.

Thanks, looking forward to the results. I would like to do some shaft footing with all square stock and then run through a doweler. Have done a few with the hand plane and it works fine but would like to go faster to keep up with kids and grand kids

I tried a few shafts made from an off cut of vertical 'coffee' flooring plank. Only came in with a spine weight of 38# to 40# and didnt seem to have any memory if one applied thumb pressure to the shaft. Ie, didnt return to straight when pressure removed.
