Builders,

What is the average thickness of your limbs?  I know it's dependent on the poundage, I'm looking for 50-55 pounds when finished.  I'm also looking at 60 inches tip to tip.  So, short bow and heavy poundage.  Wondering what your thoughts are.  Thanks.

3/8" TO 5/8" depending on a million factors.

So many factors as Pearly mentioned but generally 1/2" at mid-limb will get you what you want with most woods, including Osage. Personally, I think we need a certain amount of compression value and I think 1/2" is about right for bows 60-64" and between 45-55#. You can start out wide, maintain 1/2" thickness and narrow to the weight you want. These are some of the guide lines I use.......Art

Thanks for the advice men.  We shall see what I can come up with.

When building a bow in that range, I, too start with a thickness of 1/2".

I also follow those guides, except I start with a scribed line about 5/8 and then floor tiller from there. I've come in light trying less, so I figure it's easier to take more off then to add.

Hey Chuck, I'll be lookin' for a 28" draw length.  Nice web site BTW.

My bows are typicaly 60 to 62 inches as well and I agree with dvs 5/8 its generally a good starting point. Especially when heat treating
