Nock files

Hey all,

What size nock files do you guys use to cut string grooves?  I have some chainsaw files that are 7/32".  Will these work?

Almost any chainsaw file will work. The one I use mostly for my selfbows ate 5/32" but I reshape then when I finish the bow.

I used a 3/32" Sthil file for years but haven't been able find one that small for a couple of years.  Now I use a1/8"for most of my bows.

I use a carbide blade for a little coping saw. It's 1/8th round and about 10 inches long and cuts real well. I even cut a 4 inch piece off of one and glued it into a hunk of wood for a short file if ya wanna call it that.

Dremel with a tile bit.  You gotta use a steady hand though!  Sure goes fast, but I leave plenty and finish it with the chain saw file.

I have a Dean Torges nock file and I start panicing when I misplace it.

A 4" nicholson round bastard, it is what Dean uses, and after using one you will never want to use a chainsaw file again.

That sure looks like it.  I would have to handle one to be sure, but for $11 it is sure worth a try.  I used to get them from an old , old, did I say OLD True Value hardware store, they ran out and did not re-stock. What  a boon if wally-world carries them........
