The LongBow I have been whittlin' on has just about come to a Usable Bow!! Slow & Steady, Right? Anyway, now comes the String. How Many "Bundles" for a 3# at 14"??   :goldtooth:

Your sweet little thing will be much happier with a real fat string.  Easier on the fingers and the arrow stays on better.  My neices and nephews don't care one bit about arrow speed or efficiency.  They just want to have fun.

we need pics of the little one shooting!

I would use at least 12 just because anything skinnier than that and I have a hard time keeping the nock on the string. Unless you double serve it? Such a low wt. bow doesn't need much of a string, but it's just an issue of keeping the nock in place like Va said.

I'm kind of thinking about 8 strands. It's certainly strong enough and two 4 strand bundles will make it look like a Flemish string. For the serving, double or triple serve it to get it big enough for the nocks and little fingers.

I bought some "No Gloves" to put on the String too, that will help Her in Nock Location.  :D    I was thinking maybe 6, so I was close!
Thank You All for the Info!!  :clapper:   :clapper:

Heck, in this case two strands would work but it wouldn't look right. I don't see any problem with six strands.
Good call on the No Gloves things. That will be a lot easier for her.
Don't forget the pictures!

Both of my nephews prefer to shoot their 20# longbows I made them Au Naturel without a tab or a glove. I tried to get the oldest one to use a tab I made for him and he took two shots with it and threw it on the ground. He said he likes to be able to feel the string........go figure?

Charlie Lamb made a post where he tied the nocking points on above and below the arrow nock and made them long enough to cushion the fingers on the string. Not sure what he used or exactly how he did it, but you might look it up or send him a PM about it? I had thought about doing that to a couple of my bows, but I like the ability to adjust the nocking point up or down with a simple pair of nock pliers, tying them on would eliminate that option. But for your little granddaughter I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. I think he used B50 for the tied on nocks if I'm not mistaken? Don't quote me on that though.
