So after finishing the bow for my son I began carving out one for myself. It took a long time to finish but finally I have a shooter! (my schedule is so tight I have only 30min a day to play)
This was my second attempt at a higher poundage bow to hunt with this spring/fall. Specs are 62"ntn 64lbs@28" The tips are Whitetail overlays. (from a buck that decided to destroy the front end of our Nissan Armada, thought I would include it into my first bow as a bit of payback) Walnut stain and deer skin leather grip. Rest is cut 1/4" from center, bottom limb is 1" shorter. I followed Pats', Johns and Erik's advice on the layout and grip. So thanks for all the help along the way! It seems like it will last as I have put about 200 arrows through it with no problems. Surprisingly it shoot very quick and quiet. Layed out a force draw curve and it out performs my 55# Bear Montana. Now on to the next one!

Nice bow, NY! Completed my first bow last summer and took my first bow-killed deer with it. You'll definitely have fun with that one.
Good luck,
Stan

Sweet looking bow man.  I like the dark stain.  Sucks about your armada but I like that you put it in your bow.  Makes it mean that much more to you.  I like putting little reminders like that in stuff I do.  Stuff that makes me grin a little.

Very nice.  And well done getting a higher weight.  It seems most of us (my experience and a lot of stories) end up light on our first few bows.

I'm pleased with how it turned out. I'm really surprised at how well it shoots. Could be my bias but it's really nice. I have a bit of work on the finish to do but have had too much fun shooting to tackle that yet.

Very nicely done. Tiller looks good although a bit whippy on the bottom limb tip but that could be the camera angle.

Pat,

You are correct. (big surprise :-]) I really took too much off on that tip so I had to cut it back about 1 1/4". Even then it was too whippy. Another lesson learned. In my head the logic was by taking more off the tip I would have less hand shock. Then I realized the cast would be flat by over doing it.
