More questions- sanding glass?

When watching the Binghams DVD, on building a recurve bow, the guy said you had to sand the glass after taking the tape off. He stated the glass manufacture put a coating on the glass and finish would not adhere. Is this correct as no has mentioned this on here. Thanks, Don

Yes it true. I wait until I am in the fine grits and start sanding the glass when I hit 220. I always hold the bow a couple of lbs overweight in case tiller changes or power changes. However go light on the limb sanding.

Just to add some opinions to the conversation,When I glue up I go 15-12 lbs heavy. I drop 10 lbs just block sanding with 60 and another 5 lbs when I switch to 150. And yes that is sanding on .050"
clear uls from Binghams.
Not that this is the right way,just the way I learned, I mean sanding glass is lame and hard on the lungs.

I sand the shiney release
agent off with 220 grit sandpaper too..I used 220 and 320 grit on a couple..just using 220 seems fine.. I am using spar urethane in the shaker can for the finish.
