This is too much fun!  Flingin arras without all the gadgets I've grown out of. Just like in my old days   :)

Thank you for all the help in the "hickory board bow questions" thread!

No finish on it yet, shot it maybe 200 times, 65" NtN, 48lbs @ 28" draw, pyramid style, 1" set, Hickory board bow, my first man-sized bow.

Too sweet!

Ok pictures:

Full draw (that is me in the pic)

braced at 6.5 inches:

Linen cloth set in TBIII as backing:

handle:

String grooves with hot nail method thanks to 4est - thats a scrap piece of figured walnut as the overlay:

Some finish sanding is needed and a finish of course.  I'm thinking I'll call her "Sojourn".

Comments not only welcome but highly prized!

Thank you all!

after about 300 shots this bow has developed a compression fracture...check...fret...chrysal about 6" below the fade on the bottom limb.

It is very small and runs across the grain.  I noticed it during final sanding process.  So I used CA glue on it and re-tillered both limbs down about 5lbs @ 28" - staying away from the affected area.  Trying to relieve some strain there.

I placed small dots at the ends of the check with a sharpie so I could monitor its potential growth lengthewise.

I'll shoot her till I don't think it's safe to do so then grow tomatoes with her or sumthin.

I was amazed at the fact that she would bend and hasn't blown up yet, so thank you all for your help and kind words and encouragement.

Time to go find anotha board...back on the horse with me!

This is a great forum!    :clapper:

Great looking bow. Don't you jusr love the looks that you get in those stores?  Remember, shooting carbon arrows from wood bows voids their warrenties.  :nono:

Well as an update the check grew and spawned 2 more while shooting today...I've got maybe another 50-60 arrows through her.  I switched to some 2117 aluminums that I got for free (sweetness!) that are about 550Gr with tips.

One thing I noticed about the heavier arrows is the whole shooting experience is much sweeter.  That mass increase in the aroows seems to take a lot more energy out of the bow.

I'll go look for another board and get started again, maybe try tillering this one down to 30lbs @ 28 inches to plink with...gotta have a .22 right?

We'll see if she lives.  Her sister seems unaffected on the belly side so far although she's a bit wider and longer.  We'll see if that one lives longer.

Thanks for all the help and support!
