Nutters for pheasants

My brother in law hunts and guides alot of folks on pheasant hunts. He asked if I could get him a bow and some flu flus to hunt with. But he's not willing to risk one of his dogs using broadheads. Do you think nutters would be good medicine for pheasants? I told him I'd get him some but wanted to ask this here first.

no experience personally with pheasants, but from what ive heard a nutter is a no no. They would be alright for close shots on the ground i believe. For a longer range target moving away from ya, id have to go with the ace hex blunts, if ya gotta have something dog safe.

I'd try the wire hoop bird points sold by 3 Rivers and others. They are supposed to be able to break wings and with a dog to find the bird they should work. Plus they will be safe around the pups.

i'd,almost as w try the kondors.almost as wide as the snaro, but 3 times cheaper.

Use a somewhat dull broadhead.

I can understand his feelings about his dogs,but shooting at birds in the air shouldn't be to much of a problem to the dog.
If he's worried but the dog being cut retrieving the bird,the dogs work it out.
I use Duchshunds for rabbits an they don't get cut.Another angle,blades damage less flesh,,,you gonn'a eat that critter, yes.

I have hunted pheasants where we weren't allowed to use BH's. A field point or regular blunt with Zwickey Scorpios is the answer.

I got phenominal penetration on a pheasant with a regular blunt set up that way. The Scorpio did it's job and I had 10" of arrow on either side of the bird.

The only time that I hunted pheasants with bow, the guide 'required' us to use broadheads.  The dog handlers had the dogs on a 20ft rope.  When the dog went on point, he'd grab the rope (if he let go of it at all.) and then one of us would kick it up.  We would retrieve any birds with the arrows still in them.  The dog would go after ones we nicked or passed through.
Maybe that would help a little.
