semo- it seems like my best bows come from staves that one would think were useless. Something from nothing. Nice lookin bow.

I love these simple bows. The simpler the better.IMO My ultimate goal in building bows is to get as simple as I can and still be effective and these little NA style bows are effective...with properly spined arrows!!!
Semo, I Robin Hooded one of my self nock arrows. Talk about mixed emotions!

Thanks for the compliment guys.
Simple, basic, and effective was what I was trying to achieve and do it with the ugliest piece of wood that I had........I accomplished all the above. It turned out nicer than I ever could have expected and it doesn't get any more simple than this.

Pat- mixed emotions yes, it would have hurt my feelings if I had ruined one of my arrows. There's alot of work that goes into just one and I almost cry when I lose one.

I named this one "Jeronimo"

I did notice that and i am just like you and Pat about my arrows. So far the only true robinhood I got was with aluminums (not so bad) and it hangs on my wall. However i have destroyed a few nocks/feathers - on (all type) arrows and hate it when I do, though I'm always pleased with the shot - LOL.

When I practice with my "Other" bows I have to shoot at spots or I will bang my arrows up pretty bad. I've had about a half dozen Robin Hoods in my lifetime and it costs me money everytime I do, especially nowadays where the cost of just an arrow shaft approaches $10 bucks a piece.

My most memorable Robin Hood was in a 3D tournament where I centered a buddy of mine's arrow and I even called the shot because he nailed the small 12 ring which was about the size of a silver dollar. I told him in order to get the 12 I would have to stab his arrow. He was ticked off when I did and I still have that one hanging on the wall.

Normally I don't have to worry about it when I'm using my recurve or a longbow, but I guess my shooting is improving all the time?

Glad it turned out so well for you. I would say I dont mind a robin hood. Never got one. Have busted up knocks and cut off feathers. Heck I had 9 arrows over here and am down to 6. 2 are knocks so I will fix them if I get pressed. The other is well can we say a little shorter.
Once back in the states I may have to try a short bow like this. Cant wait to see what you are doing know,

BTW- Just so everybody is clear on something. You all can post anything you want to in any of my threads or topics that I start. I do not mind one single bit and Lord knows I am one of the worst about straying off topic. I just really enjoy shootin' the bull with you all and my threads have an "Open Door" policy as far as I'm concerned. Now Post Those Pics Bglass!

I plan on starting another thread to show my progress once I start on it, unless Stiks would rather I post it in his thread? Not sure what the norm is cause this is my first bow swap, so somebody clue me in on that part of it. Should we start our own progress thread or all post pics and progress in the same one?

I really think it depends on you and how much detail you want to put in it. If you are going to make it a detail (my Vote) the I dont think stiks would mine as long as the title has bow swap. I you are just going to snap a few pics here and there. the thread already started. Or both.
The main thing is to have fun building,

semo,really nice bow,and good shootin..i think we all take pride in every bow we make,it is quite a feeling i get taking the first shot with a home made bow..i am so glad i found trad gang..i m a long way from a bowyer,but im learning more every day,i have a couple of shooters so far,i only wish they looked as good as the one you have pictured here..john

Thanks John, this was a real fun project. I do stuff like this in between the others just to keep it fun. I had this ugly arse stave and it was just teasing me to try and make a bow out of it.......I just couldn't resist.

I really enjoy shooting this short little bow, I'm amazed at how well it shoots and for such a short one 40# @28" it's really got some zip to it!

I love how simple it is and there's just not much to it. Perfect description of a stick and string.
