Getting the tiller on mine moving. still on the long string but making careful progress. Kids go to camp next week so will have lots of shop time to finish it up.

Vanillabear, beautiful bow!!!  Are those skins naturally that dark or did you do something to enhance the color?  I really like the look....Dan

I just returned from Post Office. My trade bow is on its way. Hope that the 1234566789012???? enjoys it.

vanillabear?

Thanks guys.

Lee, it's about 67" ntn and around 1 5/8" at the fades. The taper starts at like 16" or maybe a little more from the tips. Handle is about 1" wide.

Dan, this skin was pretty dark to begin with. I think it might be a black rat snake skin. I did dye the back of the bow black before I glued it down, but didn't do anything to the skin itself.

Thanks Ken, but be careful what you wish for..... this just might be your bow......then again......

Thanks Vanillabear!  I think I am gonna layout a real nice osage stave with the same dimensions...LOVE that profile!

I'm almost done, started to apply the first coat of the finish. Will send it this weekend.

Backup bow is ready for the short string tonight.  Things went way faster than with the original, and I think it will be a better bow for **** in the long run anyhow.

vanilla -- that black color and skin and the profile are awesome together.  I've got my fingers crossed.

That is a lovely bow vanilla. And we are slowly creeping up the number of sent and received bows.

Hey! My name has four stars in it!  :jumper:

I worked on getting both limbs bending evenly tonite after the second heat treatment and a chance to rehydrate. (to self...Bona, take some pictures tomorrow!)

I heard some cracking tonight while exercising the limbs between scraping but I see no splinters or fretting. Has anyone ever had this experience?

Dave has four letters, so does Andy, John, Jeff, etc, etc...     :wavey:

Every time I hear cracking I eventually find it.  So far, if it's been hard to find at first, it's a belly fret that shows up clearly after working a bit more.  But maybe someone else has had better experiences like what you describe.   :dunno:

Bona, Its never good when a bow starts talking to you. However if you have bark or sinew on for backing it can sometimes make those ticking nioses that always send you heart into overdrive.

Bona,

Sand it really well.  String it up and maybe even partially draw it with a stick.  Then run a cotton ball in all directions all over it.  You'll find any potential issues.

Good luck.

The finish has cured on my bow.  I have to do a handle wrap and then it is off to ****.  Hmmm 4 letters...maybe.
Take a kid hunting!

Awww! Now you guys are just teasing me!  :)

It's a selfbow so any ticks is all wood. No I really don't like it when they "talk" like this to me. I get ticking noises like this from my kids when I ask them to work.

I will try your suggestion John, thanks.

I have a back up plan though.

my bend handle board bow spit and sputtered while tillering , but has yet to show any signs of anything...i just figured that was the wood tryin to get to know me...

none of the ones that broke for me , talked. wouldnt you be creaky if you bent that much after not? and i always hear cracking when im in the woods...

gonna get some time saturday night and sunday to work it. got the clamp i need , so it should be floor tillered , and at least halfway to weight/draw ... couple hours a night here and there and ill be shipping on the 6th hopefully...

ain't got no gas in it...mmmhmmm...

canopyboy

Well, tiller on mine is far from perfect, but it should be shootable.  I've gotta another inch or so to go and stay at weight.  In all likelyhood my recipient might have to settle for a few pounds light (or increase their draw a bit.)

If there was more time, I'd probably start over.  But I think I'm already on the verge of sleeping on the couch as it is.  My better half has a master bathroom that is 98% done but on hold.  She's starting to use the word "Mistress" to describe this bow.  And that's not a word that's ever good to hear your wife say.

Went shooting my trade bow yesterday and after half an hour something didn't feel right. So I had to rework the grip a little bit. Went shooting again and now everything feels ok.

Started to reapply the finish. Still a few more coats to go but she will be ready to ship until Monday.

beautiful handle andy- what type of a.wood  is that??
i see you have your arrow contact area directly above the deepest part of the grip. i have read about that in adcocks paperwork. the theory made sense- now for the first time i can see the results of it.
very, very nice.

Trux Turning

Wow that is a beauty and looks like a shooter too Andy- there will be another happy TGer when they get your bow.
