I'm planning on painting the back of the bow with natural pigments if I end up making a white wood bow for the swap. I was experimenting/practicing last night with some options. Here is some pics of a sinewed limb I was just messing around with, I didn't think it looked too bad for goofing off!

Looks good b.glass! What color is that on the right in the bottom picture?

Believe it or not the "HARDWAY" is often the EASIER way(in hindsight)!

The yellow is osage dust in hide glue and the green is just grass rubbed on the sinew. They kinda blend.

The purplish color is a cactus beelte crushed and mixed in hide glue. It is more of a blood red on white wood and mixed in water only.

Very cool Bona. The natural dyes will make your bow shine.

Very cool. I'll have to try the natural dyes sometime.

I was watching an episode of PBS's "Craft in America" just a couple nights ago.  There's a traditional/ primitive textiles professor in California that talked about those beetles.  Prior to "discovery" of the "new world" there wasn't a good source for that vibrant purple & red they produce.  The "discoverers" were amazed at the colors in the native people's clothing.  They were used to dye the British redcoats & are still used today in lipstick & make-up even.

Doing good Hova, Glad to hear you found a place of your own. I know how it is, I lived with my inlaws for a few months when I first got married waiting to close on a house. The bank fell through and I went active duty and have not looked back sinces.

NTD

Well....I got the BBO tillered out...I'm not really happy with it...I'm going cross eyed looking at FD pics.  And it's 5lbs under the weight he asked for.

I think this one won't be going to my recipient...good news is there was someone else I wanted to gift a bow too  ;)

b.glass

NTD, that's a perty bow. You do good work!

Thanks guys but that upper limb just looks off to me.  It does shoot really nice though.

I guess my TG recipient is probably going to get a BBI now  :)

b.glass

Yes, it's a little stiff I guess and I suppose you don't want to lower the poundage anymore. It still looks nice!
