I got my trade bow finished up yesterday; actually still have to build a good string and silencer for it. But she's ready to go and shoots pretty good.

Sorry no full draw pic, its just me home tonight.

Ok, so I'm working on a bow that I might do for the trade bow if it works out. I know I should add pics of my progress but I want to run something by you all first. I was reading that the reason hickory takes a set more easily could be that it is so strong in tension that it overpowers it's own belly. So I decided to trap the back to see if that helps. I also want to use a rawhide backing because it is a board and although it as nice straight grain it looks like it has some sap wood with the heart wood. Shouldn't I back the whole back. I'm thinking about using the bear rawhide that I have and it is very thin, almost as thin as grocery sack paper.

Mr.Landis, That is a beauty of a bow.

I haven't quite started my own first bow yet but I have gotten some hands on training from a fellow TG'er. And with this new to me knowledge I will be joining in on next years bow trade. I just hope to impress whoever I get as much as I am impressed with all of the bows on here. I doubt it could happen but I will be giving it my best. I will probly build up my own pile of firewood before then so it could possibly be my first "shooter" on here next year, lol.

Believe it or not the "HARDWAY" is often the EASIER way(in hindsight)!

Did the hickory back fail?  Too bad it broke! hope your next is more successful. Hickory backed ipe makes a very good combo.  You might try going a bit more narrow so the ipe isn't so thin. You can go as narrow as 3/4" at the widest and still get weight but 1" to 1 1/8" should be good.
