Thank you all for your kind words. I think I will sign up in January and the great community spirit shown here on TG will inspire me to even greater effort on my next few bows. As soon as the weather warms to above freezing I will start prepping material for two or three bamboo backed tri lams. That way I should be able to build to a recipients' needs.
Kelly, I may have two bows, but you have a trad kill. I won't be hunting wth my bow this year because my shooting skills are not good enough yet. Hopefully by turkey season I will be ready.

Dave I would almost be willing to bet my shooting skills are not any better then yours. I set my limit to 15yrds. That is as far as I felt comfortable and it worked out.

Kelly, while practicing I have no problem putting a broadhead into the kill zone on a target. The problem is that targets don't give me the shakes like a deer does.   :)
Seriously though the only practice I'm getting right now is at 10 yards in the basement and broadheads are out of the question inside the house.  :scared:    :nono:
I'm thinking of joining a local club so I can shoot realistic targets at different ranges.

Dave that is how I started archery it was a compound back then. I killed my deer at only 10yrds so get out there with you Trad bows and get one. You will not regret it.

I think i found the perfect bow for whoever's name I get in the 2012 bow swap... heck I think I can also ship by Jan. 20th.

@ rmorris hehehe Actually that looks like a fun project! I'm tempted to make one just cause I can...

That is pretty cool, but it looks like it is about to jump out of his hand.

Did look kinda shocky didn't it Kelly. The Guy looked funny shooting a longbow with a peep and sights

Stiks, back in my younger days in the early 70's. There were classes for stickbows at shoots. Bare bow and sights. Bare bow was no sights of course. The sight guys had sights, peep sights, stabilizers too. I have to chuckle to myself when I hear some new trad guys knocking guys who use sights on their stickbows. Not saying anything bad here, just thinking out loud:)

Roy I have a set of old sights around here somewhere that came off an old recurve. It was pretty much just a rail with some pins. when I first got into trad I looked at all kinds of sights for trad bows but I'm glad I stuck with bare bow.

I guess I'm so used to seeing folks shoot bare bow it looks odd to me to see anything else. I shot wheels for years and them things look funny to me know LOL

Been away almost a month now, catching up with the final outcome this morning.  Glad to hear it's all wrapped up, sorry that our most prolific participant didn't make it to the finish line...  (Anyone count up how many of the posts out of 190+ pages were his?)

I'm thinking DVS summed it up best:

Jack in the shop tonight! Another one in the books.
Now I just can't figure out which way to go next year.  I hope I get a recipient who doesn't care, I have duelling dreams of glass and osage, with hickory making an occasional appearance.

Hats off to the organizers!

David, there will be at least one of us that doesn't care what style or type (wood/glass/etc.) that we would receive...
It could even be PVC with sights, made while drinking fruity beer, or, heck- I would trade a bow for a really good set of hand made arrows from some of these guys.

Fruity beer...good idea.  A little too cold for me to get out into the shop to build a bow or arrows right now so I suppose I will content myself to build some flyrods for sale and tie some flies.  NOW as soon as I can get out in the shop I have bamboo to shape and lams to grind for next years swap.

I figure I will make 2 bows and keep the loser while sending the winner.

Anyone have an idea who the first idiot to come up with the idea of ruining perfectly good beer with fruit was?  I'm rather sure it wasn't a flyfisherMAN....  But I could be wrong?  (And I'm not talking about the limes that get served with a Corona here, although that can take us down a whole 'nuther road.)

  :knothead:

That said, maybe there's something to be said about the character of the guy who can stomach such a concoction.  Anyone that tough probably makes a pretty solid bow.

Nothing wrong with fruit beers...I like several Cheladas for lunch when we are fishing in the cold though...think of it as VEGGIE BEER.  I will try as diligently as can to get to the gym three to five days a week so I can work up to a 45 or even 50 pound bow. Who knows...man club could be right around the corner for us little sissy montanans.
