I was working on my trade bow (third one to exact) and put her on the scale and she was under weight.

I thought something wasn't right so I checked my scale and it is about 9 pounds light. So my trade bow could be one of three that I thought came in to light.

Guess I need to buy a better bow scale, any suggestions.

va : the real question is , how was her grouping?

stiks , icantbuidabow is my other screen name. enjoy the bow i send your way

lol just kidding , in all seriousness , i need to get out there and put a whole day in tomorrow and really get down to buisiness. once i get down to my back ring , im thinking 1 1/2 " wide at the grip to some 3/8 tips , maybe a slight molle tip.

then again i do love those ones that just melt away in the woods.

hmmm...

i keep checking in to see all the bows , there is some great work going on here very talented bowyers . its exciting watching the swap

Stiks-n-Strings

It is exciting ain't it Ken.

The first year I done this I was more excited about what others where building and sending that I almost forgot I was getting one. LOL

By the way I banned icantbuildabow after last year cause he really didn't and several guys stepped up and offered another bow and the recipient chose DVS and got a sweet one. If Icantbuildabow can't come through for me..............Hmmmmmmmmm, so many to choose from.    :D

It came! It came!   :)  I came home from one of my jobs on day to find a nice pvc tube sitting by the doorway like it was waiting for me to come home. Of course I worked at my other job in 10 minutes so I wasn't able to open it....   :banghead:

Once I got home that night though there was no stopping me, I openned up the tube and was thrilled to see that I had gotten Shaun's bow! (and the arrow hahaha) It is beautiful and feels like a gentle beast. I can't wait to put it (and my arm) through it's paces tomorrow. It's tillered to 60# @ 29" since my draw varies from 28-29 pending on the distance.

:clapper:  Beautiful bow. I only hope once I finally send mine out it will be so good.

ps. what type of wood is it?

b.glass

Outstanding Mike! I'm happy for you!

Kris, what kind of scale do you have? I had the same problem earlier this year but didn't know it until I got a new scale. It is the digital one at TRA. I like it alot!

sticks - i was just messin , i forgot that was the dudes name last year. you didnt let him in again did you?

ken : i hope youre enjoying your swap bow like i am. the molle is one sweet shooter. the i-beam has a little twist in it , but still shoots good.

kelly : i got down to one ring above my chosen ring , so within the next couple weeks i should be bent and sent.

Calm down Hov, I know you guys you where just messin. LOL I just about rolled off the couch when DVS posted that was who drew name. I was rolling

I did ban a guy from last year but he ain't been around since the last swap and hopefully it stays that way. One bad apple ruins it for everybody. I clearly stated in the sign up post that I would not be as easy about that stuff this year.

It was a pretty good one Dave you got me for sure.

Bona I have a handheld spring scale, I was thinking about sending you a PM to find out what kind of scale you bought. I remember reading your post about it.

UnderControl16,
"ps. what type of wood is it? "  .... there is only one type of wood for self bows! Osage.

Well really, there are others like yew and hickory and hackberry. But hedge is still the king.

Have fun and let us know how it shoot for you.

Swissbow

After being away for a week, a lot of work and a few days where I was ill, I finally found some time to work on my swap bow. I started to rough out the riser...

...slowly it starts to look the way I want it to...

okay guys, everyone's turning out absolutely beautiful bows. I have yet to see one that i wouldn't love to own. I'm really excited for next year's trade, i plan on making a nice glass bow. I'm finishing up my first glass recurve now, and they're a blast to make.

that said... every new bow i see i wonder if it's headed to my house!

great job, everyone

canopyboy

Ok, clock is ticking, I've gotta start re-prioritizing.  Even my wife is starting to think this may need to move ahead of some of her projects....

A month or so ago my boo showed up.  Then I found a nice ipe board -- enough for 3 or four bows.  I wanted to use smooth-on, so I built my oven.  I was going to go the air-hose route for clamping, but then life got in the way again.

But now it's time for the bow!  I re-shaped my form a bit, and my youngest daughter help me fill it with holes for clamping without air pressure.  (Turns out 7 yr-olds make good drill press operators.)  I've cut out and prepped my parts.  Tonight is the glue-up.  Last night was a dry run:

It's good to be making some progress.  Let's hope it works, 'cause I won't have much time to start over...

19 shipped and 75 to go John. By my count, but I ant worried. I just like stirring the pot sometimes. Next year by this time if my bow is not shipped I will be worried to death. But I have been working on the same bow for a while now is I guess it might happen.

So I would like to introduce my trade bow. It is a hybrid long bow around 62" black glass maple riser, maple and action boo lams. She has been roughed out. She is still waiting for some overlays and the rest to be cut in. But I am making sure steady progress. This bow will be a work horse not much to look at but a tank.
Also I have a quick question if the recipient wants a 35+ lbs bow as an example is 10 lbs over to much?
