Cresting Paint Question

Chris - I did get the artists paints to cover well over a smooth bare shaft.  Think I'll tape off the area to be crested then stain, dry, one coat of poly, dry, then peal off the tape and crest that area.  Then dry and go to my sealing coats...heck, it's worth a shot on these test arrows.
