The find a cure bow

This bow is dedicated to the woman who survived cancer, and to the ones who were struck down by that horibal disease.My mom included she would of love this bow...hope you enjoy this build along.
Since I like ash so much we decide to use it   as the core wood.
 
I then  rolle the purple dye on the  quilted maple veneers.
 
Onto the gluing of the wedge clean and prep and clamp and up onto the lights.

After the curing time I run it throught the grinder to get rid of the glue spots and ruff up the surface.

I square up the edges on the table top sander and cut access with the table saw.


All is squared and cut to length, I clamped to the fence of the sled and is ready to be cut to the angle I need.

The laminations and wedge layed out and cleaned  we are ready for glue up.

The limb set in place and taped down she is ready for the top half of the mold.

Top mold and hose in place she is ready for the oven.

It was hard to match the 4 lams because the alchohol was evaporating so quick. I was mixing and trying to get it at the same color for each lamination.They are turned good side down in that one picture.

What kind of strapping tape are you using, it is some kind of clear tape I can see and makes for a good looking assembly going into the oven.

Hockey players use it to keep there shin pads and socks up plus use it for ankle support.It has alot of elasticity and takes the heat well.I get mine at costco in Alberta or any sporting good store.I am not sure how many hockey retailers in texas but somebody would have it.

Onto to the riser,we squared up the piece of purple heart,then put into the clamps and ready to be cured in the oven.



I make my riser a 1/8" wider so I can square it with grinder.When I sanded the surface down I found a crack under the surface of the wood.
Some kind of rot when the tree was alive.

Back to the drawing board

Onto the limbs out of the oven and access glue and the limbs sanded down to 2"wide,I retape the
limbs so not to get scratched.I put the clamps so
to square up wedge end of limbs.

I mark and cut off the required 1/4" of the end of the limb.

I retape and mark center of the limb and butt end

I center the binghams jig on the line front and back.


Everything lined up,I am ready to drill,I used tongue depressors so not to leave screw dints in the riser.

The binghams jig has done her job again,she isn't perfect but she is better than nothing...lol.

I have hit the wall,I let a friend borrow my drill press,the arbour was bent in the process.I am waiting for my new one to show up.

This bow was the one I started for your wife actually.I have couple of bows on the go for our archery season in August.I will try to get to  it when I can...Jeff.
