Osage Backing Question

How faithful does a guy have to be when chasing rings on osage when he plans on backing it with hickory anyways. The rings are oddball and are actually concaved, so the outter edge of the limbs will be slightly higher than the midline of the limb. I would like to make it flat to ensure a good bond with the hickory. Thanks in advance for any input! Tyler

You can plane and hickory back osage like that with no problem!

Here's an old idea of mine that is still shooting today. The end result ended up a little different than the plan but your thought does in fact work. I think they call it an HBO?

Thats a nice bow! Thanks for the help. I actually want to try something that I read in the Bowyers Bible Vol. 3. Inducing "perry reflex" is what i'm shooting for. You tiller the stave backwards, then apply the backing.
