Charlton wanted a 60" Ossabaw and this is what we came up with.  She has a persimmon riser, boo cores, and eastern red cedar limb faces.  I think we will go with buffalo horn overlays, but are not 100% yet.  I have to play with some woods tonight against the cedar to see how they look.  I really think the black horn will look best against this riser and cedar though.

Looks awesome Marty. First time I've ever seen persimmon in a riser and it looks impressive.

This morning I got the limbs initially profiled, string grooves cut, and got her strung for the first time.  I then started tillering and taking her to weight.

Alignment looked good, the blank was drawing 52@28, and she required some reduction on the top limb.  Now she is drawing 46@28 and will fall right into the 42-43@28 requested weight after final tiller and finish sanding.

Looks like I was slightly off center when I took the photo.  The string tracks much better than this photo shows.

I agonized over what overlay material to use.  Couldn't make up my mind, but finally went with the buffalo horn.  I made overlay lams out of four different woods, but finally made up my mind.  I found a piece of horn large enough and went to work.  She is glued up under the lamps now.  I should get them cleaned up for more photos tonight or in the am.

I love it when the customer wants me to use my own "artistic" choices in the details.

looks great,Is that "wild" persimmion or the Chinese persimmion with the big red fruit?  I'm thinking that big cedar in my front yard is in trouble...

Apex Predator

A buddy of mine cut this one down in FL.

I know where some tall straight wild persimmons trees are,not sure if they are big enough for risers.. we have a couple of the Chinese trees but I can't cut them.

Apex Predator

Yesterday I got the overlays glued on, and this morning cleaned them up.  The tips are coming along nicely!  The buffalo horn has to be the best looking material against the cedar.  Next step is riser shaping!

I really like the way you do the tips of your bows.

That Buff really does set it off nicely. Looking really great man.

Plus, you've already been working on it AND posted this early on a Saturday! Dang! I'm still waiting on the coffee pot to finish up haha.
