Need help ?!? with greenhorn mistake

I am building a redoak board bow w/ 4est build along.

It is 66 - 1/4" nock to nock with reflex tip overlays approx. 6".

I got to chasing uneven tiller like a dog chasing his tail, and have come in 20 lbs under weight. About 23 lbs, wanted 40-45lbs. All this prior to final sanding and finishing riser / arrow shelf.

Is it saveable. Or should I cut it off, surform some more and make it a kids bow.

Make it a kids bow.

Put a backing strip on it of oak or hickory and back that with cloth or brown paper it will run you weight straight back up!

I'd say you've learned something about the fine art of tillering a bow!       Finish it off as a lighter bow, then get you some more wood and let the shavings fly!  "Chasing tiller" as you said is much like my philosophy in playing golf:  I wanna hit the ball as many times as I can to get my money's worth out of the ridiculously expensive green fees!  Nothing lost on this bow but a few pounds. Keep it up!

If you make yourself a tillering gizmo you will take off a lot less wood while stalking tiller.

I would back it with a strip of 1/8" hickory glued in a reflex. You will gain back your poundage.

Thanks for all the info. and help. I am unsure if I am going to back it or finish it light and give it to my nine year old son.

Question?   How much can I shorten this longbow and still be ok? Currently 66-1/4" nock to nock.
