Here she is at final tiller, 54@ 27"

Here is the upper limb overlayed on the lower.  She's slightly positive on the tiller and about as close as I can get.  THere are a couple things that still bug me a bit but I believe she is done.  Sanding, staining the sinew on the back and then some finish and off she goes to ---  ------

I went back and checked all the older posts in Johns build for the swap. This is excellent and I luv the raised handle on the back, great profile and excellent tiller. Way to go John! Lot's of nice bow traded but I think this one and Pat B's have my eye!
John we want to see your finish job too!

Thanks.  I'll definitely post finished pics.  I got the tips and handle shaped pretty good last night.  I'll sand her tonight and maybe get the stain done.  It's so humid right now I can't do spray poly.  It tried on a scrap piece last night and it did not go well.  I might have to do it inside.  Don't tell the wife  :)

So I got the rough tillering done and shaped the riser and nocks. The handle is lookin really nice. Its two layers of nice green poplar, than curly maple with a scrap piece of a cutting board I made on one side.Im dont know how to post pics though, do you have to have a photobucket account or something like that?

So I'm one of the lost souls who signed up for the bow trade but then have not said anything since.  Sorry about that.  I knew that time was limited but I still thought I'd have been done with the bow much earlier.  Not so.  Between work, 5 kids, and all the activities that come with them, I just haven't gotten on here like I should have.

Anyway, I am close to getting my bow finished and so I thought I would post a few pictures of the progress as it has occurred over the past months.

First off, a trip to the wood stash.  I cut all my osage when I was living in Indiana and then hauled it all with me when I moved to Idaho 7 years ago.  Here's part of it.

And here's the candidate that was picked.

Here's what the rings look like.

A little shaving to get the back ready.

And some cutting to outline.

Next comes the heat bending.

And you end up with something like this:

Unfortunately, I messed that one up and had to start all over again.  In my haste to get a second bow done on time, I failed to take any pictures of the process and so all I've got for now is one of the almost finished bow.

The finish and writing are also now on it and I just need to get a handle wrap on and make a string for it which I hope to do in the next day or two.  My goal is to mail it on Friday, but I'm not sure that it will happen or not.  If not then, it will have to wait for a week because I leave for scout camp on Saturday.

Holy crap! I want a wall of bows too!

Steve,

Awesome wood man!  I think I remember that tree  :)   That is one good looking bow.  Looks like you moved some thing around in the man cave.  Hope all is well with you and the clan.  Wish I was there (in September).

Good job Steve!

I was just catching up with the trade bow thread when I came across the pics you posted.

I think Stevie Wonder could follow a growth ring on your stave. Back when I still made my own bows I considered it almost a gift from God if I came across a stave that looked anything like close to yours.

When I think about where it came from originally  its' not so surprising. All the folks that came from that part of the world to the MoBoJam always had good wood with them to trade, sell, or give away.

I can't tell you the number of times that I'd pick up some really nice staves when Sunday rolled around and there would be piles of wood out by the road free for the taking just because they didn't want to haul all that weight back home with them..lol

You literally have a great stash going on. Premium grade wood that's been moved to a lower humidity climate and aged for several years.
