Handle ??

I have a new bow started out of Ash and I want to put on a piece of purpleheart for a handle.  How long of a piece should I use??  I have a 2x2x12??

How much of the handle area is bending?  Generally I will have a 4" handle with 1 1/2" to 2" fades so that would come out to 7" or 8". If any of this 7" to 8" in area bends, your handle will probably pop off.
