I was thinking about picking up a Fred Bear Montana longbow, but the recommendations were for 26in and above draw lengths.  My draw length is 25 3/4.  I did shoot one and it was dead on even with low quality mixmatched arrows(all they had available) at about 8 yards.  I though for the price $299 it would be a good buy. Any thoughts on this, I'm no expert.

Hi miller_cem,
I think the Bear Montana a good bows but if your just getting into it I would try and shoot as many longbows as you can. Then after you get an idea what you really like look under the classifieds on this web page and I bet you can find a good custom bow for sale at about the same price.

My draw is 25" and a montana was my 1st longbow,it did get the job done but im 5'7"and the bow just seemed to long for me, it was 60# @28" I actually checked it on a bow scale @25" and the wt came out @48# it shot ok but it just didnt seem to have much snap at 48#,Two weeks ago I was the trad show in kalamazoo Mi and shot a LaClair Hunter classic long bow it was 52" and 52# @ 28" and even at my 25" draw it was extremly fast and smooth.you might want to look around and shoot some custom bows before you buy.
Rejoice always!
pray constantly.
Give thanks in everything, for it is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
