I checked Home Depot and Lowes today and the finest sand paper I could find was 220. Where do you all find the really find stuff? I was hopin to get some 350, 400, and 1000. Thanks!

Auto parts stores have finer paper. Find one that sells auto paint. Real paint not spray cans. Mark

The Lowes near me has some 600 grit.  You might want to try some of the smaller hardware stores.  I have an ACE store near me that regularly carries some REALLY fine grit paper.

Good luck

Sears sells fine grit paper down to 1000.

autoparts store for up to 1500 grit some times 2000. i usta use them to make clear acrylic fishing lures.  honestly after 1000 grit you are better off with polishing compound.  the small hardware store here sells open cut up to 600,  i have never used anything over 320 dry. at 1500 then polishing compound the acrylic is perfectly clear.
does everyone else look up when someone yells "DUCK!!"?

I got some today. We had some at a smaller local hardware store. The finest I got was 1000.

Automotive paint supply houses. Tell them you want actual grit stuff, not the average aggregate size.

Not so critical with wood, moreso on the finish.

How fine are you wanting. Try woodcraft or rockler. You can get micro mesh it goes up into the 10's thousand.
