New Homemade Trad Arrows and Bows

Ok so i took up archery a few months ago and these are just some of the arrows and bows that i have made....







The four in the back here are the new ones



The rig that i use, very simple. (must have Mug)



All 16 new arrows that i made. It takes 10 minutes to just glue on the fletchings. I also have to drill the holes to glue in the tips, Machine (homemade) wrap the fronts with string, Cut the nocks and hand wrap them, Also mototool the trenches for the fletchings so they are 100% smooth. They are poplar and 30" long. The old ones that i used to use were 29.5".



My quiver, also hand made by me, it holds two dozen arrows. Hanging on it are also my homemade armguard and finger guard.



My three bows all board self bows; 40#@28", 72" maple; 8#@28", 76" oak (my first bow that worked); 46#@28", 72" Oak.

Your arrows resemble those made by a dutch bowyer, Lars Cossen. They're easy to make, effective, and have a rugged appearance. his fletchings have a water-drip shape though, and he's very fond of it.

Can't say too much about the bows, since I've neither seen the front profile, nor the tiller, but usually beginners tend to make overwide tips. You can easily taper the outterlimbs to 3/8" wide nocks, without sacrificing safety, but improving the performance.

Really? 3/8 wide nocks? Do you really mean wide or do you mean thick? Not trying to question you at all just really suprised...

Looks great!  You've been busy.  

I agree with the thin tips (width that is)...It took me a while to grasp the concent and accept that it would work..but it indeed does and it helps performance quite a bit.  Here is a pic of a thinner tip on one of mine:

 

And even thinner on a kids bow

yes Mo, 3/8" wide will do. Thickness depends on the drawweight, but it'll be a bit more, I guess.

Wow, ok, thanks for that pics Brad and i guess i'll have to try it on the next bow that i make. Thanks Brad and Nick. Right now my tips are about 1". I'll have to try 3/8". Do you need to reinforce the tips then?

you may want to, because of astetics. I've heard that fastflight might cut into the nocks, and thus a overlay might be usefull. But I don't think you'll need it  

keep in mind that you'll have to make every transition smooth.
