My son Zach (Skihard on Trad Gang) who is a blacksmith/ski patrol/search & rescue guy in Crested Butte, CO has become much more proficient in his bladesmithing skills.  Here is his Elk hunter blade for the upcoming elk season.  Looks like the knives I've made for him in the past will be collecting dust  :)   tippit

Zach's Knife...

OAL 9 inches with a 4 1/2 inch blade out of 5160 high carbon steel.

Sounded bad at first, but you gotta like that! Great to see your son picking it up a notch or two.
Good on ya. I like the finger grooves on that one.

Yes he will.  After the small thrill of using your own to skin a stage or two I am betting the sentiment of carrying a knife that dad made him will be too strong.  I know it certainly would be for me.  Either way, he is taking a little of you into the woods for mojo everytime.

Very cool post

I know how proud you will feel when someone asks you about the knife you are using and you get to tell him "my son made that for me"

I can definitely see you're influence in that one, but there are some obvious differences as well.  Looks great.
