Well, I have been putting a lot of thought into how I wanted to make my grinder and I have it about done.
I contacted Brad Jansen for some information on his kmg that he built so I had a starting point.(Thanks Brad!)
I definitely learned my share on this build but it sure was fun!
I tried to get a bunch of pictures along the way in case anybody wanted to learn from my mistakes.

I knew I wanted to make the grinder be able to rotate from vertical to horizontal so I welded some tabs under the base.
I centered them up at the balance point of the assembled grinder.
It took a few days and I came up with this stand that I could bolt to the bottom and loosen and rotate the base.

The other night I put it all together and ran it for a bit and I am pleased at how it turned out.

Trade you for my old piece of Jun...........I mean my priceless antique 2x36 grinder attachment   :D
Nice work, I need to get my new grinder done one of these days. I really like the stand you made for this one.

Nice work Thad. That's a great looking setup.

Not to pull this thread too far off center, but I'm looking at your dust collection system too. I'm getting ready to put my grinder back together and want to do a better job of collecting the metal dust at the source. The coarse dust from 36grit belts shoots pretty much straight down into a water bucket, but the finer stuff follows the belt on my Burr King on around.

Do you have any pics of how your going to set up that big "super sucker"?

Thanks for the kind words guys, I appreciate it.

As far as dust collection, I am going to use my old penn state unit for metal and keep the bigger one for wood only.
I am working on a catch tray for the back side of my bucket that will connect to my dust collector.  I will get some photos along the way...

Thanks,
Thad

I don't have any time on a knifemaking grinder yet, but from the sharpening/buffing experience I do have I've always planned on trying to get as "flexible" of setup as possible.  Much easier to move the machine than twist yourself up...and the quality of work (my work at least) always goes up.
