I have wanted to forge an axe or hatchet since I started forging. So with Lin's recent work in mind and having tried a couple times I fired up the forge to try again. I used a chunk of mild steel to start with, 1"X2"X5". I forged the body out like Lin showed in his post then wrapped it, inserted a bit of 5160 and set the weld.

It cuts better than any axe I have used before and I am having fun chopping with this thing. Let me know what you think.

Slick, dude!
You guys have elevated Trad Gang knives to another level.
My hat is off to both of you.

When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Thanks guys. I had fun forging this and am actually enjoying using it to clean up around my property after a witer storm left a huge mess.

It takes nerve and persistence to make these things but you certainly succeeded. It really turned out great.

Nice work, to say the least, Chris!  That's something to be proud of there!  :)

Thanks guys. I have had projects that were a fun process to make. This is the first one that the fun continued after the project was done. If you get a chance to try one do it, it's fun.............
