Has anyone used the file guide that Jantz sells? It seems to be a little cheaper in price and i was wondering about the quality. Any info would be great. Thanks Jason

I'm guessing it's tool steel left full hard and not tempered. I have one from a different source in Canada. Well worth the money, but if you're careless with the file, you can cut grooves in them. I'm planning on saving up my coins for one of the carbide file guides. At any rate, it sure beats trying to file nice square shoulders by eye! I'm guessing one of the more experienced makers will have an opinion or two.

Thanks for the info bladepeek. Maybe someone else will chime in later.

I have one. It wasn't the quality I wanted and replaced it with one made by MS John Perry. I still use it to true up plunge lines occasionally.

I would, if possible, go for a better quality guide.

I have one and although it has seen limited use, it appears to be performing well.  As with any tool, buy the best you can afford at the time.

Uncle Al sells a very good one, expensive!  I have tried a much cheaper one and it works, but I spent the extra dollars and I'm now satisfied.

Yep - carbide is the way to go.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Thanks again guys maybe I'll spend the money on more steel and accessories.
