I hope that this is the right forum for this question. Anyway here goes: I have a knapped blade knife with a phalanx bone handle that was given to me as a gift. I have had it for about 6 years. It is in a glass display case. I noticed some bone dust and a hole in the bone handle a couple of weeks ago. Today I saw a worm hanging out of it. Has anyone seen this before? Are my stag handled knives in the case at risk? Is this an egg that has hatched? Thanks for any help.

Could be a number of critters. Maybe a moth larvae of some type of borer beetle grub. My thought would be to put the whole display in a heavy duty bag with moth balls for a few weeks, put some inside the display case as well. Other then that perhaps put the whole thing in a feezer for a few weeks.
