doug how do i use the potassium permanganate

Steve Nuckels

Jackie,  Potassium Permanganate is the way to go! After it is mixed it keeps in the container for a long time for later use.

I have tried alcohol based dye and ended up with varied results depending on the antler.

Michael H. Mara Had this to say on Facebook yesterday^^

Michael H. Mara:
We paint Potassium Permanganate crystals dissolved in water on the antler to darken it. It's not a paint nor dye, simply a very powerful oxidizer. Takes quite a few coats to get the really dark brown color.

He also added that it will stain anything it touches, and will dissolve the brush slightly..   :p

Boil it in tea works. I've used leather dye and you can buy actual antler stain from a taxidermy supply company.
