Built Ford Tough from a truck coil spring.  Gas Forge, Hand pounded on an anvil in the same shop I built my Hog Cooker.  5" blade, 4 1/2" handle of osage.  Goal was to forge a tough camp knife leaving a lot of the forge markes for a rough mountain man look.  Pins are 6010 welding rod with the flux nocked off.  Heated to critical and quenched in vegetable oil at 140 degrees.  Then soaked in a toaster oven at 350 for an hour or so.  I have my first attempt at a pattern welded blade almost finished as well.  Loving the forge.

The rural Japanese knifesmiths leave the blades rough-forged over the edge for a reason.  They say the rugged exterior protects the soul of the knife.

I won't weigh in on that, but I do know that leaving the blade rough-forged tells the story of how it was made, and when a knifesmith can leave 'em all to proudle show they've got my respect.

I grind 'em off for a reason  :)

Nice looking knife Bob, bet it holds an edge like nobody's business!

Bobby,
I love that mntn. man forged look. Gives the blade real character. I just plain like primitive type blades. Take a look for some of the blades I've put together.
I reckon so
